Sharjah Indian School enter quarterfinals
Sharjah: Sharjah Indian School defeated New Indian Model School (NIMS), Dubai to reach the quarterfinal of the 16th NIMS Trophy Inter School Basketball Tournament played at NIMS, Sharjah.
In another match Delhi Private School (DPS), Sharjah stopped West Minster, Dubai to also advance to the quarterfinals.
Hosts NIMS, Sharjah and Our Own Sharjah also made it to the quarters defeating Emirates National School, Sharjah and Emirates English Speaking School, Dubai respectively.
SIS started well against NIMS, Dubai in the first quarter with a six point lead. Zahran and Balram were the top scorers for SIS while Esmail and Tenzen top scored for NIMS, Dubai.
The match was even from the beginning of the second quarter. NIMS had an upper hand in both the second quarter (20-18) and in the third quarter (11-9).
After Hesham and Tanzen exited with five fouls SIS consolidated their grip to win by a margin of five points (61-56)
In a pool A match, Our Own, Sharjah beat Emirates English Speaking School, Dubai. Both the teams fumbled in offence throughout the game. The first half score was in favour of Our Own, Sharjah (8-6), and at the end of the third quarter Emirates led 15-13.
Ashwin Kumar who top scored for Our Own Sharjah converted the winning baskets for his team. Akul Yadav top scored for Emirates English Speaking School.
In an earlier match, Al Diyafah High School, Dubai registered an upset victory over Emirates National School, Sharjah, 53-46 in their Pool's league match.
The quarterfinal line up is as follows: Indian High School, Dubai vs St. Mary's High School, Dubai; NIMS, Sharjah vs West Minster School, Dubai; Sharjah Indian School vs Our Own Sharjah and DPS, Sharjah vs Model School, Abu Dhabi.
