Dubai: Al Hurr Rashid Khadim Al Muhairi guided his ‘Al Serb’ to victory in the final heat of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing held off the Jumeirah Beach on Saturday.

Organised by the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) to mark the 30th anniversary celebrations of the watersports body in Dubai, the 22ft dhow sailing race was the penultimate event on the 2017-18 calendar before this weekend’s 28th edition of the Al Gaffal Race between Sir Bu Na’air Island and Dubai.

The race, meant to be a final dress rehearsal before the season-ender, attracted a record 103 dhows. With so many boats in the fray, things got tough for the Rashid Khadim Al Muhairi-owned Al Serb. Skipper Al Hurr managed to stay clear of the chasing pack, consisting some of the star performers from last year, namely Al Sharqi, Mujahir, Sharmadal and Thayeb.

Finally, it was Al Serb crossing the line first along the Jumeirah Beach coastline while pushing the Khalaf Butti Mussabah Al Ghashaish-skippered Al Sharqi in second even as Majid Ahmad Khadim Al Muhairi took his Mujahir into third place. Sultan Saeed Mohammad Hareb had to stay content in fourth in Sharmadal while Ali Esmail Yousuf Al Hammadi’s Thayeb finished in fifth.
