Antonio Margarito Montiel was born in Torrance, California, on March 18, 1978. He currently resides in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

Pro career

Margarito made his professional boxing debut on January 14, 1994, with a victory over Jose Trujillo. In 2002, he defeated Antonio Diaz to become the WBO Welterweight champion.

He successfully defended his title for several years, before losing to Paul Williams in a close 12 round decision in 2007.

He is the former WBA welterweight champion and former World Boxing Organization and International Boxing Federation champion.He lost his WBA title to Shane Mosley on January 24, 2009, by TKO.
