Ironman Australia Results
In his maiden Ironman competition, Irish Dubai-based triathlete Neil Rooney, completed the 2007 Panthers Ironman Australia Triathlon in 598th place at Port Macquaire, New South Wales on Sunday.
Battling among hundreds of competitors from all over the world, Rooney did the Dubai triathlon community proud as he came through the 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycle ride and 42 km run in11hr 31min 42sec.
The 29-year-old along with Julie Hall, were the only two triathletes from the UAE who took part in the event. Hall who runs the Dubai Tri-Club, finished in 1279th place among the women with a total time of 13hr 57min 52sec.
Australia's own Rebekah Keat came across the finish line in first in the women's section in 9hr 12min 59sec while New Caledonia's Patrick Vernay beat the competition to the men's top honours with a time of 8hr 21min 49sec.
