Fujairah: The first Fujairah Endurance Chess Solving Championship has received a huge response with 43 teams from around the world set to the take part in the competition. This Championship is being organised under the patronage of Shaikh Mohammad Bin Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, on November 11, 2017 at Concorde Fujairah Hotel.

Speaking about this unique championship, Dr Abdullah Ali Barakat, the President of Fujairah Chess and Culture Club (FCCC), said. “A total of 129 players representing 43 teams from across the world will be taking part in the championship which is being organised by Fujairah Chess and Culture Club in association with UAE Chess Federation. We are delighted that our Under-10 and Under 16 year-old categories have received huge response. Fourteen teams will compete in the open championship for men and women. The visiting teams are from Egypt, Sultanate of Oman, Kuwait, Morocco, Syria, Yemen, India, the Philippines, Moldavia, Romania, Latvia, Georgia, Serbia and Russia.”

Grandmaster Salim Abd Alrahman, winner of the World U-14 Championship in 2007, and the GM Ahmad Adly, winner of the world U-20 year-old championship in 2007, GM Igor Miladinovic winner of world 20-year-old championship in 1993 are among other world class players that will take part in the championship. The eight-year-old Emirati player Rodhah Al Serkal will also contest in the championship.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Federation Cup 2017 for Teams and Communities hosted by Dubai Municipality was won by Zoom Travel. They won the gold medal and Dh3,000. Second place went to Dubai Municipality. Dewa 1 team finished third with the young chess players representing this team. The teams that finished 4th, 5th and 6th were Fujarah FM, Fly Emirates 1 and Syria respectively.
