Watson saddles four winners for Al Basti

Champion trainer in the last two seasons, Watson looks headed for a hat-trick, and his four wins came courtesy of four different jockeys.

However, the feature event of the day went to trainer Dhruba Selvaratnam who bagged the Dh120,000 Shadwell Farm Handicap with Otaared under William Buick.

The four year old cruised home with room to spare as Erwan Charpy’s Minefield finished second about four lengths behind.

Superb outing

Jockey Smith won the penultimate race of the day for trainer Rashid Bouresly on Summer Games and then completed a superb outing for Watson and Al Basti by riding home Weald to a classy win in the final race.

Watson had earlier started the third meeting here, as he did in the first two, winning the opening race and it was with Bur Dubai that he took the honours this time round.

Drag O’Donohoe then partnered Lord Ego, another Al Basti horse trained by Watson, to a four-length win in the second race, while Richard Mullen made his winning ride on Elsadeek — the most convincing of the four winners.

Elsadeek sprinted home in a five-furlong race, the victory margin 9.25 lengths, to sweeten a terrific day for Watson and Al Basti.
