Kandidate taken to win in Singapore

Singapore: Kandidate can make the running and take the spoils in today's Singapore International Airlines Cup at Kranji racecourse.

The Clive-Brittain trained five-year-old received the ideal draw from gate one and will be able to lead and dictate the pace.

That will suit the Eddie Ahern-ridden horse perfectly and allow him to attack the race in the manner of his impressive Maktoum Challenge (Round II) victory at Nad Al Sheba in February.

But there will be danger from other horses which will benefit from a truly run race. Mike de Kock's Oracle West is one that will enjoy the pace, although there are thoughts that he is best suited to 12 furlongs rather than the ten of the SIA Cup.

Sixth in last month's QEII Cup in Hong Kong over the distance, Oracle West was hurt by the lack of speed in the race, which should not be a problem this time.

Japan's defending champion Cosmo Bulk, the 7/4 favourite, has his supporters but his national compatriot Shadow Gate, at 7/1, looks the value in the race.
