Dubai: Jebel Ali Racecourse will stage its final race meeting of the 2012-2013 season this weekend with the feature race being the Listed Jebel Ali Sprint.

The Dh500,000 contest, which was first run in 1994, will be sponsored by long-time Jebel Ali supporter Shadwell.

Shadwell is the thoroughbred horse racing operation of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance.

Delivering a short message through a teleconference call from Scotland, Mirza Al Sayegh, Investment Director at Shadwell said: “Shaikh Hamdan reaffirms his commitment towards the support of horse racing at Jebel Al Racecourse and is impressed with the popularity it enjoys at the venue thanks to the good administration that has been put in place.”

Al Sayegh said sponsorship by companies like Shadwell and other regulars who support Jebel Ali racing bolster the level of competition, and imbue the event with greater professionalism and quality.

Jebel Ali Racecourse Manager Sharif Al Halwani thanked Shaikh Hamdan for his continued support, adding that the racecourse management was working on ways to get even more spectators to attend their races.

He said such efforts would encourage potential sponsors to support racing in future. The supporting sponsors of Friday’s racecard include Al Habtoor Motors, Arabian Scandinavian Insurance Company (ASCANA), Commercial Bank of Dubai, Bemco Group and E-Sports.

The management announced that over 100 valuable prizes will be given away to lucky racegoers against free coupons that are available at the entrance gates.
