With a total pot of $30 million (Dh110 million) there’s no doubt that the annual Dubai World Cup is one of the world’s most exciting horse races. Expect a total of nine high-class races during the day with six Group 1 and three Group 2 contests. The final one is of course the $10-million Dubai World Cup, expected to start just before 9pm on the night.

The fashion

It wouldn’t be DWC without all the pretty — and often OTT — fashion. And to keep the off-track action exciting between races, there’s even an event where ladies and gentlemen can compete with each other. The annual Style Stakes competition, in its own arena at Apron Views, has become an institution in itself, with many a wannabe model strutting their stuff for the chance of winning a fancy cash prize. About 650 contestants will compete for prizes worth
Dh250,000 at 3.55pm on Saturday; judges look for style, elegance, creativity and practicality – so get outfit planning! Follow competition updates via the hashtag #MeydanStyle.

The tickets

DWC is known for being a star-studded affair — on the field courtesy of the world’s best thoroughbreds and off the track with celebs and VIPs. So choose your ticket wisely. Do you want to mingle in the exclusive premium lounges and private terraces or do you want something a little more low-key? Well, here’s what you get for your money. Categories sold out at time of publishing have not been included.

Nad Al Sheba Suite

Located on Level 6 and offering arguably the best views of the racetrack and the Parade Ring, this suite features reserved tables, as well as access to a private balcony. Tickets allow access to the Apron Views area and the Parade Ring Lawns.

What’s included? Afternoon tea, buffet meets à la carte dining options, soft drinks and standard house beverages.

How much? Dh4,200 per person

Daylami Suite

Previously known as The Lounge, this suite is also located on Level 6 of the Meydan Grandstand, with lounge and table seating.

The Gallery

Located after the finish line, The Gallery offers a good view of the horse racing and DWC opening ceremony.

Sky Bubble

Always popular, the Sky Bubble is located under the crescent roof of Meydan Grandstand, offering 360-degree views of the racecourse. Tickets offer access to the Parade Ring Lawns and Apron Views. But it is detached from the general racing area, so you’ll be watching the action on TV.

What’s included? Buffet, canapés, soft drinks and selected beverages.

How much? Dh1,470 per person

Rails Restaurant

This option offers access to the Apron Views. But if you don’t fancy heading out, you can catch the races on the various flat-screen TVs scattered around the venue.

What’s included? International buffet, canapés, soft drinks and standard house beverages.

How much? Dh1,050 per person

Meydan's Ballroom Terrace, Farriers Terrace or Millennium Terrace

Classed as Meydan’s best venues for the races, each option includes access to Grandstand Apron Views. The great thing about the Meydan Ballroom Terrace is that you can take the entire family, with free entry for under-eights, as well as
free admission and dining for a babysitter.

What’s included? Afternoon tea, gala buffet dinner, soft drinks and juices, canapés and standard house beverages. On the menu, chef Guenter Geiger tells us, for dinner is slow-roasted milk veal loin with grilled asparagus and bagna cauda sauce and sticky toffee pudding.

How much? Ballroom Terrace: From Dh950 per person (Dh475 per child between 9 and 12 years old). Farriers Terrace: Dh1,650 per person. Millennium Terrace: Dh2,950 per person

Apron Views

And finally, if you fancy grabbing a last-minute bargain, well you’re in luck, as the Apron Views tickets were still available on sale earlier this week, at press deadline. Home to the famous Style Stakes, Apron Views offers access to the free grandstand seats in the area, as well as various food and beverage outlets. Pack the sunscreen as there’s not much shade here.

What’s included? Pretty much entry only.

How much? Dh472.50 per person

Post-race entertainment

After all that action on and off the track, you’ll need to unwind — big time! Luckily, there are three options laid on this year, all in close proximity to the venue. The official post-race celebrations will be hosted between the nightlife venues Soho Garden, White Dubai and Stage Dubai, so you know where to go.
