Race 3: Godolphin Mile (Group 2) 5.50pm 1,600m; $1,000,000 sponsored by Etisalat
Skysurfers finished third in the Godolphin Mile last year when he made up ground late after a tricky passage from a wide starting stall. The powerful son of E Dubai has had just one outing at Meydan this season, and been rested specifically for his task on World Cup night. Skysurfers seems to be a horse who does his best when coming back from a break, and the layoff is probably an advantage.
He beat Musir in good style in the Firebreak Stakes (LR) over the Godolphin Mile trip in February, winning most gamely by 1½ lengths. If Skysurfers runs up to that level of form on World Cup night, well then he will be hard to beat. The race was just Listed class but Group 1 were further behind and it was a highly competitive affair. He is a typical miler, both in pedigree and running style, and absolutely made for this race.

Red Jazz was one of the toughest and most consistent three-year-old milers in England last year. He has done all his racing on turf, but this colt has run well over five different courses in his homeland, and he seems to be very adaptable.
After starting the season well with a Listed win at Newmarket on his seasonal debut, and running second in the Jersey Stakes (G3) at Royal Ascot, Red Jazz became even better in the second half of the season. He was a close third behind World Cup contender Poet's Voice and Rip Van Winkle in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (G1) at Ascot — and won the seven-furlong Challenge Stakes (G2) at Newmarket. A combination of speed and stamina is often required to make an impact in the Godolphin Mile, and Red Jazz should be one of the favourites here.

I Want Revenge was favourite for the Kentucky Derby (G1) two years ago, but was ruled out by injury. He resurfaced in the Suburban Handicap (G2) at Belmont Park last summer and ran well for third behind Haynesfield. The winner took the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) in great style later in the season and I Want Revenge's return could be called promising.
He was then dropped in class in the Iselin Handicap (G2) at Monmouth, but finished third again, beaten six lengths behind Duke of Mischief. I Want Revenge was wrapped up for another lengthy break. He reappeared in the Donn Handicap (G1) at Gulfstream Park in Florida in February, where he was beaten 2½ lengths into fourth behind Giant Oak.
The level of his performance was quite similar to his third in last year's Suburban, indicating that I Want Revenge is still a force to be reckoned with.
