Big field for annual Gulf News Merchants Cup Golf Tournament

Black crystal trophies await the top five finishers in the Pairs Stableford event

Dubai: A big field of 92 golfers will tee off on the Faldo course at the Emirates Golf Cup on Thursday to compete for top prizes in the 22nd edition of the annual Gulf News Merchants Cup Golf Tournament.

This looks the strongest field assembled for the championship, which brings together member of the business community in the UAE, in many years.

The format is a Pairs Stableford (3/4 Handicap) with the best Stableford score to count on each hole. Men will tee off from the Blue tees and ladies from the Red tees.

Beautiful black crystal trophies for the top five finishers are up for grabs with stylish prizes also awaiting winners of the Nearest to the Pin, Longest Drive, Most Birdies, Hole-in-One categories, in addition to several ‘fun’ prizes.

“We are very excited to be hosting this 22nd edition of our annual tournament”, said Rajeev Khanna, Commercial Director, Al Nisr Group, who is an enthusiastic golfer himself.

“The field looks particularly good and it will be a pleasure to welcome all our golfing friends once again. We wish them luck with the game today and may the best pair win!”

Barney Coleman, Club Manager of Emirates Golf Club, commented: “We are delighted to be hosting the 22nd edition of the Gulf News Golf Tournament.

“Having hosted the very first edition of the event we have seen it develop in to the golf event that it is today.

“We are sure that the golfers will enjoy the Faldo Course which is currently in great condition. And as always the players will enjoy the hospitality laid on by Gulf News,” he added.
