The Dubai Creek Striders the medium to long distance road running club in Dubai - will be holding their fourth Annual Half Marathon (21.1 km) road race on December 9 with the support of the UAE Athletics Federation.
The race, which will have a start and finish at the Dubai Creek Golf Club, will commence at 7am.
The race will follow a scenic route of a figure 8 around the Dubai Creek taking in Garhoud Bridge, Creek Park, Maktoum Bridge, on to Deira, following the Creek through the Dhow Wharfage and through Shindaga Pedestrian Tunnel, Bur Dubai Souk, back along Bur Dubai side of the Creek over Maktoum bridge.
Trophies will be awarded according to age categories in the Open, Veterans and Masters for both male and female runners.
The current course record for the men is one hour, 16.15 minutes, while the ladies' record stands at 1.27:20.
Overall Male and Female winners will be rewarded with a fantastic prize of an entry to the Thailand Temple Run, along with accommodation at the Amari Watergate Hotel, Bangkok.
Participation fees have been fixed at Dh100 and include drink stations along the route, a souvenir tee-shirt, cap, goody bag, a finishers medal, a full breakfast and an opportunity to win lucky draw prizes including a return air ticket to Johannesburg donated by South African Airways. Pre-registration for the race is a must and has to be done before December 8 on the website at www.dubaicreekstriders.com.
Organisers are expecting in excess of 300 runners, thanks mainly due to support from the UAE Athletics Federation.
The half marathon has been sponsored by Siemens and Johnson Arabia along with support from Coca-Cola, Pocari and Masafi.
Dubai Creek Striders was established around 10 years ago and currently attracts over 50 runners every Friday morning, starting from the World Trade Centre Exhibition Halls car park on Shaikh Zayed Road.
