Charl Schwartzel (RSA) shot a final round of two over par 72 for a wire-to-wire victory in the inaugural $25 million LIV Golf Invitational at the Centurion Club, near London.

37-year-old Schwartzel, a winner of 15 global professional titles, won his last tournament in 2016, wins this history making 16th as well as $4 million, in addition to a share of the first place Team Event purse to win a total of $4.75 million for his three day’s work in England.

On a windy final day Schwartzel won by just one shot. His final round consisted of a front nine of one under par 33 with a birdie on hole 8, to look very comfortable on top of the leaderboard at the halfway mark.

On the back nine he stumbled a little on holes 12 and 14, going double and bogey, but he had enough in hand to hold on, despite a bogey six on the 18th hole and his final hole, having started on hole 1 in this shotgun start format.

Runner-up in the Individual Event was fellow South African Hennie Du Plessis who pocketed $2.125 million as well as his share of $750,000 for the Team win.

48th place

Tenth place in the 48 player field receives $560,000 with the final 48th place receiving $120,000.

The Stingers GC Team won the Team event on 20 under par with a 14 shot victory from the Crushers GC Team.

The Stingers GC were made up of the all South African Team, captained by Louis Oosthuizen with other three Team members: Charl Schwartzel, Hennie du Plessis and Branden Grace who won the $3 million first Team prize to share amongst the four players.
