Dubai: Shiv Kapur shot a second round 70 for a two-round total of 137 in the $2 million International Series England at Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa and Golf Resort, in the North East of England on Friday.

The Dubai-resident lies in tied third, along with five other players, just one-shot behind the leaders, Justin Harding of South Africa and South Korea’s Joohyung Kim, with Kim currently standing in fourth place in the 2022 Asian Tour Order of Merit Rankings.

Kapur’s front nine, after starting on Tee 10, included three birdies to go out in 33. On his back nine, his first dropped shots of the tournament came on holes 4 and 8 (Kapur’s 13th and 17th), the first after 30 holes of no worse than par, and saw him home in 37 over the par 71, 7,069-yard course.

Kapur, after his round, commented: “I really got off to a fast start despite the chilly morning conditions. A couple of three putts on the back nine derailed my round a little bit, but overall, I am very pleased with my position going into the weekend.

Foot injury

“I am struggling somewhat with a bone spur in my right foot, and, for the doctors who are reading this article, I have plantar fasciitis foot pain. I just hope my foot holds up for four rounds as it hurts when both walking and swinging. I thought of asking permission for a golf cart, but felt I would not get much sympathy from the tournament officials,” he concluded.

Jeev Milkha Singh shot an impressive second round 69, including five birdies for 145. This followed a disappointing first round of 76 that included four sixes.

Jordan’s 18-year-old Shergo Al Kurdi shot his second consecutive round of 70, to comfortably make the cut on 140 in tied 17th spot.

The 36-hole cut fell at three over par 145 with 71 players making the weekend.

Tee times for Saturday’s third round:

J. Milka Singh 10.29am, Tee 10.
