Dodge Kemmer (US) and Vanchai Luangnitikul (Thai) shot rounds of 68 and 66 respectively to lead on 11 under par, after round two of the 54 hole $75,000 Blue Canyon Open at Blue Canyon Golf Club, Phuket, Thailand, the final event on the MENA Tour’s ‘2020+ Journey to Jordan’ Order of Merit.

It was a day of blustery winds that made scoring a challenge for all the players as the 36 hole cut fell at two under par with 52 players making the cut.

Dubai-based Joshua Grenville-Wood (Eng) impressed with a second round 66 to move into tied sixth on 136, eight under par. Six birdies and an eagle was the story of the scorecard for Grenville-Wood, only spoilt by a double bogey on the 600 yard Par 5, eleventh hole.

Abu Dhabi based Luke Joy had a second round five birdie 69 to lie in tied 14th on 139, five under par.

Major drama

There is also potential major drama in the MENA Tour’s ‘Journey to Jordan’ Order of Merit, with leader Tom Sloman (70-73 for - 1) and second-placed David Langley (70-77 for + 3) both missing the cut.

It means a third Englishman, David Hague, has an outside shot at winning the MENA Tour’s ‘2020+ Journey to Jordan’ Order of Merit title in the last round of the last tournament of the season. However, Hague will need some Friday fireworks as he is $3,696 behind Sloman in the money list and will need to finish fourth or better in the tournament to claim the crown and with it gain a precious invite to one of the Asian Tour’s upcoming $1.5 million-plus International Series events.

After a Thursday 70, Hague will start the final round at five under par, six strokes off the lead and four strokes behind the current joint fourth place sitters.

The final round tees off today at 8.28 am (local Thailand time).
