LIV Golf Team Championship – Miami: Stage set for the final round of the year
Dubai-based Otaegui and Lahiri aim to sign off on a high in finale
The pairings have been published for Friday’s quarter-final round of the $50 million LIV Golf Team Championship, to be held from October 28-30 at Trump National Doral Golf Club in Miami. Team opponents were announced at a Captains’ press conference to kick-off this week’s three-day, knock-out tournament taking place over the 7,702-yard par-72 Blue Monster course, site of LIV Golf’s eighth and final event of the year.
For each head-to-head Team matchup, three matches will take place: two singles matches and one alternate-shot (foursomes) match. All 32 players will compete simultaneously in a shotgun start and matches will be played until a winner is determined. Each match winner receives one point, and the first Team to earn two points will advance to Saturday’s semi-finals.
The four-seeded teams during the 2022 LIV Golf Invitational Series all receive a quarter-final bye:
4 Aces GC – 152 points.
Crushers GC – 96 points.
Fireballs GC – 93 points.
Stinger GC – 72 points.
Following Friday’s results, team captains for the top four seeds and captains for the four quarter-final match winners will convene, with the higher-seeded teams selecting their opponents for Saturday’s semi-finals. On Sunday, the 16 players from the four semi-final winners will compete in a shotgun-start round of stroke play. Players will compete in twosomes, team captains will play together, and all scores will count towards a team’s cumulative score. At the end of Sunday’s round, the team with the lowest score will be the LIV Golf Invitational Series Team Champions.
Dubai-based players Adrian Otaegui (Spain) and Anirban Lahiri (Ind) are both competing this week; Otaegui representing Torque GC and Lahiri representing Crushers GC, who receive a bye in the quarter-final draw, due to their seeding.
