Dubai: Dubai-based Jeev Milkha Singh shot a final round six over par 78, to finish in tied 22nd in The JCB Championship at the JCB Golf & Country Club, Uttoxeter, in England.

The winner of the 54-hole tournament for over 50s was German golfer Alex Cejka, who had rounds of 69, 66 and 70 for a two-shot victory over Ireland’s Paul McGinley.

Jeev started with a disappointing bogey five on hole 2 and a further bogey on hole 8 saw him to the turn in 38. A solitary birdie on hole 12 on the back nine, which also disappointingly included five bogeys to come home in 40 and sign for a round of 78.

No momentum

Jeev, after his round, told Gulf News: “Today did not go as I had hoped. It was windy from the start and I had no momentum that I had in abundance in my opening two rounds. I pushed perhaps too hard for birdies rather than just play my best and let the score take care of itself. I will take some positives out of the early part of the week, especially my opening round of 64. I will now take a break, fly tomorrow (Monday) to India and then onto Singapore to play on the Asian Tour in a week or so.”

This performance moves Jeev up to 34th in the 2022 Legends Tour Order of Merit.
