Dubai: While the eyes of the golfing world will be on St Andrews for The 150th Open, the world of professional golf goes on with a parallel event, co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, the Barracuda Championship at Tahoe Mt Club, Truckee, California, US.
Some 5,000 miles west of St Andrews in California a full field of 156 players will be competing from, Thursday-Sunday, for a $3.7 million prizefund.
This tournament is part of the strategic alliance established between the two Tours and reciprocating the Genesis Scottish Open and Barbasol Championship partnership.
Included in the Barracuda field are Dubai-based Rafa Cabrera Bello, Rasmus Hojgaard and Scott Hend from the DP World Tour and Bill Haas, Nick Watney, Camilo Villegas and Scot Martin Laird from the PGA Tour Rankings. It will be played over the 7,480-yard, par 71, Old Greenwood Course.
The winner come Sunday, will gain playing privileges on the PGA Tour.
