Simon Forsström shot a third round four under par 67 to lead the $2 million Soudal Open in Belgium on the DP World Tour.

34 year-old Forsström is currently 429th in the Official World Golf Ranking and 71st in the Race to Dubai Rankings. He started the day one ahead of the field with rounds of 64 and 67 and had a front nine of 35 and three birdies on the back nine saw him return a four under par card, 15 under par for the tournament.

In 54 holes he has just made one bogey all week.

He takes a one stroke lead into tomorrow’s final round.

In sole second place is home favourite 30 year-old Thomas Detry, still looking for his first victory on the DP World Tour, who also plays on the PGA Tour and currently stands in 90th in the OWGR.

Detry playing in the penultimate pairing of the day started the day two shots back.

Three birdies on the front nine took him to the turn in three under par 33. Further birdies on holes 14 and 16 and with a par – par finish handed in a card of 66.

Detry said on completing his round, ‘There is a really great atmosphere out there. I am enjoying playing at home with all the support and I hope to continue to my good play tomorrow.’

A 90 minute delay for lightning disrupted the afternoon with play for the third round still being completed by darkness.

Jens Dantorp lies in tied third on 12 under par with his third consecutive 67 alongside Julien Brun.

Dantorp won the Challenge Tour’s 2017 Ras Al Khaimah Golf Challenge held at Al Hamra Golf Club, UAE, where he got in the top 15 in the Challenge Tour Rankings to regain his card.

Ten players are all within five shots of the leader with the weather forecast for the final round set fair.
