This week sees the DP World Tour visit the classic venue of Valderrama in Spain for the €3 million Estrella Damn N.A. Andalucía Masters. Headlining the field is 2022 US Open champion, 28 year-old Matt Fitzpatrick (Eng), currently second in the DP World Tour Rankings and 10th in the OWGR. Fitzpatrick is an eight time winner on the DP World Tour and is joined in the field on an invite basis by his younger brother 23 year-old Alex, who recently finished tied 13th in the Cazoo Open de France.
Other marquee entries include Dubai based players; Rafa Cabrera Bello (Spain) and Adrian Meronk (Poland).
The Middle East region sees its first $25 million 54 hole LIV Golf Invitational being hosted at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club in Jeddah. Anirban Lahiri (Ind), after recently being awarded his Dubai Golden VISA, is 17th in the Individual Rankings out of a pool of 56 players who have secured points over the six LIV Golf events to date.
Bonus spots
Dustin Johnson (US) has already secured the LIV Golf Individual 2022 title last Sunday following the LIV Golf Invitational Bangkok event and claimed his $18 million bonus. There is still plenty of interest with the second and third individual bonus spots still to be determined in this final individual qualifier as well as season long Team Rankings and that bonus pool, and the small matter of the $20 million purse for this week’s Individual Event and a further $5 million for this week’s Team Event.
Dubai based 16 year-old Chiara Noja will be playing in the ARAMCO Team Series – New York, now she has secured her LETAS top six finish and her playing privileges on the LET for 2023. Chiara is focusing on her school and studying and has received an invite to this week’s tournament that boasts a prizefund of $1 million. A particularly strong field has been assembled including the Korda sisters, Nelly and Jessica, Lexi Thompson, Brooke Henderson and Charley Hull.
