Haotong Li (China) shot a final round 70 to win, after a one-hole play-off with Belgium’s Thomas Pieters, the €2 million BMW International Open at the Golfclub Munchen Eichenried, Munich, Germany, on the 2022 DP World Tour.

A wire-to-wire win for the champion saw him start the final round three shots ahead of playing partner Thomas Pieters (Bel) with play in two-balls.

Li shot rounds of 62. 67. 67. 70. to finish on 22 under par.

Pieters matched Li’s 72-hole total with a final round 67.

A play-off resulted between Li and Pieters who went down the par five 18th, where Li made a long birdie putt of 40 feet after a poor chip to win his first event for four a half years, since the 2018 Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club. Pieters missed from 12 feet to extend the play-off down the 18th hole again.

Fox two shots back

Ryan Fox (NZ) winner of the Ras Al Khaimah Classic at Al Hamra Golf Club, earlier this year, came in third, two shots back.

In a thrills and spills final round it was anyone of Li, Pieters and Fox, who could have won.

Li had four bogeys in his final round, along with six birdies. Li will look back fondly on the four eagles he had earlier this week, three on hole 6, and in this final round he had to settle for a bogey six on the same hole.

This is the 26 year-old’s third victory on the DP World Tour, having also won the 2016 Volvo China Open. This victory earns Li €340,000.00.

With this win Li moves up 38 spots to 17 on the DP World Rankings, Pieters up two to fourth place and Fox upto seventh.

The next event on the DP World Tour is the Horizon Irish Open to be held at Mount Juliet, Ireland, Thursday 30th – Sunday 2nd July, 2022.
