Dubai: Home player Carlota Ciganda shot a final round 70 to win the €300,000 Estrella Damm Ladies Open Presented By Catalunya over the 6,489-yard par-72 Club de Golf Terramar course.

The 32 year-old Spaniard secured top three finishes in the Dubai Ladies Masters in both 2013 and 2014. This is just Ciganda’s second tournament on the Ladies European Tour in 2022, having previously finished fifth in the Saudi Ladies International at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club back in March.

Four-stroke advantage

Ciganda started her final round with a four-shot lead that was overturned after 10 holes with Scot Laura Beveridge, who was four under par after her 12 holes.

Ciganda, was out in level par 37, including a double bogey on hole 9.

Moving up the rankings

Birdies on holes 12 and 17 and an eagle on the Par 5, 16th hole playing at 505 yards, saw Ciganda home in 33 for a final round of 70 and a two-shot victory as runner-up Beveridge finished 66-66.

This gives the Spaniard, who turned Pro in 2012, her sixth victory of her Ladies European Tour career having won her last three tournaments in 2012 and 2019 and this week. Ciganda’s four rounds of 65, 67, 68 and 70 wins her €45,000 and moves her up to 20th in the 2022 Race to Costa del Sol Order of Merit Rankings.
