Brandon Robinson Thompson claimed his maiden MENA Tour title in the second of the two week swing in Egypt.

Madinaty Golf Club played host to back-to-back events on the MENA Tour. A golf tour that spans across the Middle East and North Africa and was founded in 2011 by the Dubai-based Shaikh Maktoum Golf Foundation.

With weather delays and challenging course conditions, round two of event two needed to be completed early on the morning of day three as poor light had halted play the previous evening.

Overnight leader, Brandon Robinson Thompson (ENG) finished with an impressive birdie in the 18th hole (round two) to take a two shot lead over Curtis Knipes (ENG) and Jacopo Vecchi Fossa (ITA).

At the start of the third and final round, Thompson had a steady opening nine, carding eight pars one single birdie. Knipes on the other hand dropped two shots on the front nine as did Vecchi Fossa with a double bogey and just a single birdie. Ireland’s Gavin Moynihan held his nerve to shoot level par on the front nine to remain four shots off the lead coming into the final nine holes of the two-week swing.

On his back nine Thompson carded birdies on Hole 12, 13, & 16. A single bogey on the par three 11th his only blemishand was enough to hold off the charge of Vecchi Fosa and ‘Event 1’ winner Ben Jones.

Brandon Robinson Thompson was delighted with this win, his first in 18 months and his winners cheque of $13,500. The man from the Isle of Wight is looking forward to playing many more MENA Tour events over the coming months.

The top 3 placed amateur players meanwhile were Andreas Weiderman (SWE), Jules Lauer (FRA) and Mohamed Abou El Ela (EGY).

MENA Tour’s Stuart Daly praised Madinaty Golf Club management for the tremendous presentation of the golf & support from the team over the Egyptian Swing Series. ‘This golf course really challenged the players in these windy conditions. The course held up so well to all the play and the team members were immersed in the events as much as the players themselves. We hope to return to Madinaty Golf Club in the future and we are certain that the players will want to see this venue on our calendar of events over the coming years. Our sincere thanks to all at Madinaty Golf Club for the wonderful support & hospitality whilst we’ve been in Egypt.

The MENA Tour will share details of the next series of events shortly with several more events planned in the coming months.
