Wisoncsin: On Sunday afternoon, 65-year-old World Golf Hall of Fame member Bernhard Langer won the U.S. Senior Open, marking his 46th career victory on PGA TOUR Champions, surpassing fellow Hall of Fame member Hale Irwin (45) for the most wins in PGA TOUR Champions history.

“It feels awesome,” said Langer. "It's been a long time coming, but very, very happy. Never thought it would happen at a U.S. Senior Open, but I'm very thrilled that the record of 46 wins happened this week. It's certainly one of the greatest tournaments we ever compete in, and to beat this field, where everybody was here, especially [Steve] Stricker and [Jerry] Kelly on their home grounds, is a very special feeling. [I am] very grateful.”

Langer’s illustrious PGA TOUR Champions career includes winning the Arnold Palmer Award (Money Leader) 11 times, the Jack Nicklaus Award (Player of the Year) nine times, the Byron Nelson Award (Scoring Average) seven times and the Charles Schwab Cup six times – each the most by any player in the history of PGA TOUR Champions.

Remarkable career

“Bernhard has had a remarkable career on PGA TOUR Champions and has earned his place as the winningest player on this Tour,” said PGA TOUR Champions president Miller Brady. “It was hard to envision any player surpassing Hale Irwin’s record, but Bernhard’s tremendous play and unmatched longevity have allowed him to do just that. On behalf of everyone with PGA TOUR Champions, I want to wish Bernhard congratulations on this extraordinary achievement.”

Since joining PGA TOUR Champions in 2007, Langer has recorded at least one victory in each of his 16 seasons, including the 2020-21 wraparound season that saw him register a win in each calendar year. With the 2023 U.S. Senior Open victory, Langer now has multiple wins this season (also 2023 Chubb Classic), marking his 11th-consecutive season with multiple victories.

Langer’s success on PGA TOUR Champions has extended to the Senior Majors. Including today’s historic win, he has tallied 12 victories in Senior Majors, the most all-time. With today’s victory, he joins Miller Barber, Allen Doyle, Hale Irwin, Jack Nicklaus, Kenny Perry and Gary Player as the only players with multiple U.S. Senior Open victories. Langer is the only player in PGA TOUR Champions history to win all five majors*. His 13-stroke victory at the 2014 Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex remains the largest margin of victory in PGA TOUR Champions history.

46 career victories

Since turning 60, Langer has recorded 13 victories, the most ever by a player after turning 60. His 13 victories in his 60s would rank in the top 25 in PGA TOUR Champions history. The 65-year old Langer has also shot his age or better nine times.

In addition to his 46 career victories being the most in PGA TOUR Champions history, Langer is also the Tour’s all-time money leader ($35,087,569) and holds the record for most top 10s, with 215.
