As hoped for, I managed to shoot my best round of the week, a three under par 67 in the final round of the €2 million Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour at Crans-Sur-Sierre to move up 13 places and finish at eight under par with rounds of 68, 69, 68 and 67 for a 72-hole total of 272, in tied 38th.

The entire field started from Tee 1 today. Our tee time was at 8.46am, in Match 7: and the threeball was Wil Besseling (Netherlands), Andy Sullivan (England) and myself. Besseling shot a final round 69 and Sullivan a 71. It is always nice to have the best score of the group, in any round of any tournament.

I managed two birdies on the front nine on holes two and six with a bogey on hole four to be out in 34, one under par.

Giving the confidence

On the back nine, I poached another birdie on hole 10, but then stuttered with bogeys on 12 and 13.

When I stood on the 15th Tee and I knew I needed a good finish and I then went; birdie-par-birdie-birdie. I was super proud of my finish today and this will give me confidence next time I am in a similar position, hopefully, when I am nearer being in contention.

Congratulations to the winner Thriston Lawrence of South Africa, who won on the first play-off with a par four against a bogey from England’s Matt Wallace, with both finishing on 18 under par after the regulation 72 holes. I played the first two rounds with Thriston, he certainly looked in good form with a fast start and got the win across the line with rounds of: 62, 64, 67 and 69.

It was great to have Dubai-based Marta and Subho Biswas supporting me all this week, my sponsors from White Eagle Sport. They do seem to be my lucky charm, I always seem to do well and play well and score well, when they are around. You may remember they were both with me when I won in the Horizon Irish Open.

Flagship tournament

It is great to have my friends around me during any week — to break up the tournament routine of; airport-hotel-golf-gym-eat-hotel-golf-gym-eat-hotel etc and eventually to the airport, is always fun, with a slightly different routine and different conversations over dinner each night.

My next tournament on the DP World Tour is the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, Virginia Water, Surrey, the HQ home of the DP World Tour.

It is a Rolex Series Event and boasts a prizefund of $8 million, historically our flagship tournament of the year.

I have looked at the results sheet for this week, and I very happy that I remain in eighth place in the 2021-2022 DP World Tour Rankings. As I mentioned on Saturday in my Daily Diary, it is a big target of mine to finish as high as I can in the rankings and maybe even win it. I have a great opportunity to do so this year, so I must keep focused and work hard, as we all do out on Tour. There are still a lot of big tournaments at the end the year before we arrive at Jumeirah Golf Estates for the DP World Tour Championship in mid-November.

Ready for the challenges

The BMW PGA is a tournament that all players target at the start of the year, as one to potentially win, or at least do well in. I will be ready for all that comes my way that week.

Thanks to all Gulf News readers and all my friends in Dubai, UAE and the region for your messages this week.

It means a lot to know I have your support.

Keep in touch and see you all again soon.
