Dubai resident Shiv Kapur (Ind) shot an opening round of three under par 67 to lie in tied 13th place in the $1 million 72 hole Laguna Phuket Championship played in Laguna, Thailand on the Asian Tour.

Shiv Kapur commented, “It was breezy out there today. It is always pleasing to play 18 holes without dropping a shot and having a clean card. I perhaps left a couple of shots out there on the par fives, but overall my short game was sharp. I have an early tee time tomorrow at 7.10 am off the 9th tee in this two tee start event, so hopefully I can continue my good form and take advantage of the easier morning conditions.”

Kapur managed 15 pars and three birdies on holes 5, 8 and 15 over the par 70 layout and lies 5 shots behind first round leader Bio Kim (South Korea) who had five birdies and an eagle in his round of just 23 putts.

Poor weather and lightning stopped play at 5.17pm meaning 40 players will complete their first round tomorrow (Friday).

Two over par

In the second round Kapur will once again play alongside Scott Hend (71. Aus) and Prayad Marksaeng (73. Thai).

Fellow Dubai resident Jeev Milkha Singh (Ind) shot a 74, with a disappointing four bogey back nine of 40. Jeev tees off today (Friday) at 12 noon.

Leading Middle East players were Saud Al Sherif (a. KSA) and Shergo Al Kurdi (Jor) who both shot two over par 72’s.

Of the MENA Tour invites Ryan Lumsden (Scot) leads the way with a 68.
