Wenger wants to bring in experience

London: Arsene Wenger has revealed he would be ready to experiment with his inexperienced youngsters if he was unable to bolster his squad with a "quality" midfield signing.

The Frenchman was in a buoyant mood ahead of the two-day Emirates Cup as he also confirmed Emmanuel Adebayor would not be leaving Aresnal.

The competition kicked off yesterday with holders Arsenal taking on Juventus and Spanish champions Real Madrid facing Bundesliga side Hamburg.

Wenger's young Gunners have proved they are a force to be reckoned with in all of their pre-season games.

But the true test lies ahead in the coming season's Champions League and Premiership, where they will bid to dethrone defending champions Manchester United.

New signings

Wenger though is not fretting over the future and remains adamant that he would stick to his philosophy of picking up rough diamonds if the club was unable to sign a top-class name at the right price.

"If we can sign one more player we will do it, but he will need to be a quality name," said Wenger, who lost midfielders Gilberto and Hleb over the summer.

"It's not just about buying players; you have to find the right person and that I feel is very difficult at the moment.

"[If we are not able to find anyone] it won't be a problem because we have a young pool of players, who can step in and fill the gaps.

"But we have lost experience and if we can get a midfielder with a lot of experience who can play a tactical role we will do it because we need someone there."

Wenger confirmed Adebayor would still be with the London club for next season.

"Adebayor is an Arsenal player and he will play for us next season.

Rules broken

"Clubs do not follow rules; they try to tap up contracted players without speaking to the clubs first and this destabilises the player," he added.

Wenger refused to comment on Gareth Barry's possible signing.

He said: "I don't think the best tactic is to come out with names."

Perhaps, he does not intend to "destabilise" players.

Clubs do not follow rules; they try to tap up contracted players ... and this destabilises the player."

Tough test to qualify

Arsene Wenger has told his players to "concentrate" on the Emirates Cup and Amsterdam tournaments ahead of their Champions League qualifier with Dutch side FC Twente.

Arsenal are favourites to beat former England manager Steve McClaren's team, but Wenger insists nothing will be taken for granted.

FC Twente finished fourth in the Dutch League last season and Wenger believes the arrival of the former national coach will make the game even tougher for the Gunners.

"The Champions League is definitely a big target for us and when you go to Holland it's never easy," said Wenger, whose men travel to Holland for the first leg on August 12, only days before they start their Premiership campaign.

"We play the first game away; we will be targets and we want to go to the first game fully concentrated [on winning]. McClaren will get them organised and that's going to make it tough for us."
