937 goals! Cristiano Ronaldo is 40 years old, but he's just scored the winner in the 2-1 victory against Germany in the Uefa Nations League semi-final. That goal was his 137th international strike as well ‑ that's 25 more than any other men's player.

If you think these stats are normal for a 40-year-old footballer, then you're living in a utopian world. Yes, he's way past his prime but the superstar is still a goal-scoring machine. If Roberto Martínez can manage his minutes wisely, CR7 can still make a huge difference at this age.

Portugal have beaten Germany for the first time since 2000 and have won in Germany for the first time since 1985. This is massive.

How the drama unfolded

Germany took the lead through Florian Wirtz's header from a Kimmich cross in the 48th minute. However, the triple changes from Martínez in the 58th minute were absolutely  decisive. Joao Neves, who was playing at right-back, was taken off for more natural right-back Semedo. Francisco Conceicao was brought on for the ineffective Trincao on that right wing. The press-resistant Vitinha was brought on for Ruben Neves.

Conceicao's pace and flair were the real difference-maker. His moment of brilliance from the right wing brought Portugal back in the game in the 63rd minute. Before Portugal scored, German coach Nagelsmann made triple changes and none of them impacted the game whatsoever.

The match winner came in the 68th minute when Bruno Fernandes brilliantly picked the run of Nuno Mendes on the left side of the box, who calmly crossed it to CR7 to finish. There were doubts about CR7 being offside but the semi-automated technology gave the verdict and the goal stood. The turnaround was complete.

 What went wrong for Germany

Julian Nagelsmann made more changes, but it's evident that they lack a quality No 9 in their squad. Wirtz, Kimmich, and Sane were the only positives for Germany. Liverpool-bound Wirtz was Germany's best player on the pitch. However, they missed Musiala in attack, and Gnabry's time is clearly over.

Ever since Vitinha came onto the pitch, he seized control completely. Also at the back, without Schlotterbeck and Rudiger, Germany looked vulnerable both with and without the ball. Both keepers made some important saves, but Germany just couldn't cope with the quality Portugal brought on in the second half.

Final thoughts

Portugal are stacked with top talents and they'll now await the winners of France vs Spain to face-off in the final. The depth they have is just incredible, and with CR7 still doing his things at 40, they've got to be confident going into that final.
