Strong gusts of 20 knots and waves rising more than a metre

Dubai: The fourth and final heat of the Dubai Traditional 22ft Dhow Sailing Championship to be held at the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) yesterday had to be postponed due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Winds that were estimated to be around 13 to 15 knots in the afternoon went up to strong gusts of 20 knots and waves rising more than a metre made sailing impossible.

"We have to consider the safety of our participants and there was no way we could risk it," Sid Bensaleh, Sports Director, DIMC said.

A new date will be set for the race after the committee meets tomorrow.
