DSC programme to encourage emirate's residents to exercise more
Dubai: The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) will be organising ‘Dubai Runs' from 8.30am at Al Mamzar Beach on March 11.
The activity is in keeping with the vision of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote physical exercise and make fitness a lifestyle.
Dubai Runs are being held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the DSC.
The ‘Dubai Runs' activity is the fourth and final stage of the Dubai Physical Programme initiated by the DSC under the theme ‘Pulse of Dubai'.
The programme was launched by DSC in October 2009 to encourage Dubai's residents to practice physical activity.
It included four activities, namely swimming, walking, cycling and running.
The ‘Dubai Pulse' programme has been launched to implement and activate the fourth objective of the strategic plan of the DSC aimed at "increasing the level of social awareness [on] the importance of sport via establishing efficient strategic partnerships and developing common work programmes with departments and ministries that deal with health and education sectors."
Dubai Runs is open to all persons irrespective of age or gender. Registration will be done without any fee and will start from 7am at Al Mamzar area while the run will commence at 8.30am.
The tour will be preceded with presentations from Fitness First and each participant will get a free T-shirt, water, juice and medical care.
