Sharjah: UAE skipper Khurram Khan, in his eagerness to see his team qualify for the 2015 World Cup, got carried away during his side’s win over Canada this week and on Thursday was fined for appealing aggressively.
Khurram won the man of the match award with a fine all-round show, hitting 88 runs and taking two crucial wickets to take the UAE to an 80-run victory at the at Rangiora Oval, Christchurch, New Zealand.
But he has been fined and reprimanded for twice breaching the ICC Code of Conduct. Both charges related to an appeal for a run-out that occurred in the 32nd over of Canada’s innings.
Initially, Khan advanced towards on-field umpire Enamul Hoque-Moni in an aggressive manner while appealing for a run-out. This resulted in a Level 2 breach under Article 2.2.5 that relates to “charging or advancing towards the umpire in an aggressive manner when appealing during an international match”. For this breach, Khan was fined 50 per cent of his match fee.
The usually calm and softly spoken Khan then repeatedly shook his head over a sustained period of time after the appeal proved unsuccessful. For this second offence, he was reprimanded after being found guilty for a Level 1 breach of Article 2.1.3, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”. Khan apologised for his actions.
