Sharjah: Young cricketers in the UAE will get the chance to improve their game as one of the country's oldest inter-collegiate tournaments is now being played on a turf wicket.

The 13th edition of the Skyline Cup, which is contested by all the top colleges in the UAE, is being held at the Skyline College ground — a venue that has been converted into a fine cricket ground with the backing of Young Talents Cricket Academy.

"It is important that budding cricketers play on turf wickets to improve their game. This tournament will help many players get a feel of playing on a turf as most tournaments here are held on cement wickets," Shehzad Altaf, the chief coach of the Young Talents Cricket Academy, told Gulf News.

In the first match of the tournament on this ground, University of Wollongong in Dubai beat Canadian University in Dubai by 73 runs.

In another match, Middlesex University Dubai defeated Bits Pilani Dubai by 17 runs.
