Abu Dhabi: Abhishek Prakash stroked a breezy century to lead The Cambridge High School to a convincing 122-run victory over Sunrise in the UAE Xchange U16 Abu Dhabi School League.

Opening the innings, Prakash smashed 102 off 63 balls and shared a 188-run stand for the second wicket with Karthik Palaniappan (64) as their team amassed 203 for four.

Cambridge lost Vishnu Menon (8) at 15 but Prakash, alongside Palaniappan, went after the Sunrise attack to pile on the runs at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council’s Oval-2. Prakash hit 13 fours while Palaniappan’s 42-ball knock contained eight boundaries. Sunrise in reply were bowled out to 81 with Prakash being the pick of the bowlers with three for 14 from 3.1 overs.

Cambridge will now meet Abu Dhabi Indian School in a top-of-the table clash in the three-team Group B following the late withdrawal of Asia International School-Ruwais.

Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Pakistan School, meanwhile, began their U16 title defence with a convincing 125-run win over Emirates Future International Academy in the other game.

Sent in to bat first, Pakistan School made 191 for five with almost every batsmen chipping in with useful contributions. Emirates Future were bowled out for 66. Opener Malik Saad anchored the Pakistan School innings with a top score of 57, his 50-ball knock studded with seven boundaries.

In another encounter, Faheemullah Namatullah took five wickets, including a hat-trick, to skittle out Al Yasmina for 25 and leading New Indian Model School-Al Ain to emerge winners by 128 runs. The left-arm seamer returned with excellent figures of 4-1-8-5 after NIMS-Al Ain, being sent in to bat, had posted 153 for eight at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Nursery Oval-2.
