Gwalior: Sachin Tendulkar became the first player to score a double century in one-day international cricket as India beat South Africa by 153 runs to win the three-match series with a match to spare.

Tendulkar whacked 200 not out in 147 balls to lead India to 401-3 at Roop Singh Stadium. He had no little help from Dinesh Karthik with 79 and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni's unbeaten 68.

South Africa was bowled for 248 in the 43rd over despite a fighting unbeaten 114 by AB de Villiers.

The third one-dayer is on Saturday at Ahmedabad.

India 401-3 in 50 overs (Sachin Tendulkar 200 not out, Dinesh Karthik 79, Mahendra Singh Dhoni 68), def. South Africa 248 all out in 42.5 overs (AB de Villiers 114 not out" Shanthakumaran Sreesanth 3-49, Yusuf Pathan 2-37, Ashish Nehra 2-60) by 153 runs.
