Dubai: South Africa's opening batsman Alviro Petersen, who cracked a half century in the first innings of the first Test at the Dubai Sports City International Cricket Stadium, has signed up for Glamorgan to play in the English County Championship. He has also been handed the captaincy of the county.
"I am delighted to have signed for Glamorgan for this season. I am looking forward to making a significant difference, where I can, to the county, and to further grow my cricketing curriculum vitae," said Petersen who hit 67 in the first innings and put on a 153 runs opening wicket partnership with his captain Graeme Smith against Pakistan in the Dubai Test. He also hit 26 runs in the second innings.
Petersen is currently the captain of the Highveld Lions franchise and has been scoring consistently as a top order batsman. He has only played five Test matches but has hit one century and two half centuries.
"It is a great honour to be given the captain's armband and hopefully I will help to bring some silverware to the SWALEC Stadium in Cardiff (the home of Glamorgan County Cricket Club)," added the 25-year-old Petersen.
