Etihad clinched a three-wicket win over Abu Dhabi Airport Services
Abu Dhabi: Roman Sougrobov completed a hat-trick and Zaheer Baig stroked a century to lead Etihad Flyers and Al Hamad Contracting to contrasting victories respectively.
Etihad clinched a three-wicket win over Abu Dhabi Airport Services (ADAS) in a low-scoring game, while the sponsor's team defeated Emirates Cricket Board Greens by 231 runs in the Al Hamad Contracting division-one tournament at Zayed stadium.
ADAS, after electing to bat first were shot out for 67 in just 10 overs. Arshad Khan took the first two wickets to fall to bowlers before Sougrobov struck. The Australian got one through the defence of Mudassar Ejaz, had Ishfaq Ahmad trapped in front before bowling Tarek Farooqi to complete the hat-trick.
Etihad in reply wobbled before reaching the winning target for the loss of seven wickets, thanks to Jawad Qazi, who anchored the inning with a top score of 42 with seven fours.
Al Hamad proved too strong for the ECB Greens, a team groomed to represent the UAE in the Under-19 World Cup.
Baig stroked 110 while Baber Malek (93) and Kasim Butt (84 not out) took Al Hamad's total to 394 for four, and Mohammad Azam took six for 35 from 8.3 overs to dismiss the ECB Greens to 163.
Baig's 107-ball knock contained 16 hits to the fence. Malek struck 10 fours and five sixes, while Butt hammered half-a-dozen sixes and an equal number of fours in 46 deliveries.
