Dulsco to continue support of cricket through tournaments
Dubai: The annual Pakistan Independence Day tournament once again lived up to its billing by producing yet another keen contest. The seven-a-side event, which has been held for 24 successive years, concluded with Seven Seas Strikers recording a nail-biting, one-run win over Anchor Marine.
The cricketers who took part in the tournament held to celebrate the 65th Pakistan Independence Day enjoyed exhilarating cricket. Despite the heat, the players gave their best. Batting first, Seven Seas Strikers scored 79 for 3 in 5 overs through an unbeaten 30 from Shaber. Anchor Marine were restricted to 78 for 2 in 5 overs despite Qader Nawaz scoring an unconquered 31. Marine found the tight bowling from Seven Seas Strikers, especially that of their skipper Freddy Sidhwa, too hot to handle.
In the first semi-final, Seven Seas defeated Golden Line by three wickets, while in the second semi Anchor Marine downed Shezad Cricket Club by five wickets.
The tournament, held under the aegis of the Dubai Cricket Council, was sponsored by Golden Line and held at the Seven Seas Sports Club’s DIP cricket ground. All prizes were donated by Atif Waheed of Golden Line.
Meanwhile, the Dulsco Sports Club, which successfully organised the 11th Dulsco Ramadan Twenty20 tournament, announced that they will continue to stage the event with more participation next year. Al Masa IT Distribution retained the title, completing a hat-trick of victories, defeating Carfare Dubai by 28 runs in an exciting final played at the Zabeel Park Cricket ground Dubai.
Johnson Alexander, the Director of Human Resource at the Dulsco, said:“Our sports club is one of the oldest company-based sports clubs in Dubai, which organises not only Ramadan cricket regularly, but also many other events throughout the year. Teams from Dubai and the entire UAE participate in our tournaments. We organise all these activities without any outside sponsorship. Our intention is not to make a profit for the club, but to provide the best facilities for the participating teams.”
