Andries Gous stars in defending champions’ seven-wicket win over Multan sultans
Dubai: Islamabad United stormed to a fifth consecutive win in Pakistan Super League 2025, chasing down 169 with ease thanks to a fluent, unbeaten 80 from opener Andries Gous.
Opting to bat, Multan Sultans reached 48 without loss in the powerplay but lost momentum once United’s spinners took charge and lost Yasir Khan and skipper Mohammad Rizwan.
Usman Khan counter-attacked with a 29-ball fifty, but lacked support and was run out in the penultimate over. Multan finished on a modest 168 for 5 — a total that never quite felt enough.
United’s spinners had kept the scoring tight, and Multan’s attack couldn’t replicate the pressure. With dew helping the chase, Sahibzada Farhan gave United a flying start.
Gous and Colin Munro then piled on the runs in a brisk 81-run stand before Munro holed out. But Gous kept his cool, adding another 55 with Nawaz to finish the job.
Multan’s bowlers were off-colour — Usama Mir went for 41, Jordan was expensive, and Josh Little couldn’t break through early.
In contrast, the defending champions look sharp, settled, and in complete control. With five wins on the bounce, they sit comfortably at the top.
Islamabad United beat Multan Sultans by seven wickets. Multan Sultans 168 for 5 (Usman 61, Rizwan 36, Nawaz 1-13) Islamabad United 171 for 3 (Gous 80 not out, Munro 45, Jordan 1-24).
