Big-hitting all-rounder has hit six sixes in an over three times this season
Dubai: Waheed Ahmad’s destructive batting and deadly spells with the ball have made him surely the most feared cricketer in UAE domestic cricket.
This season, the Pakistani ace has hit six sixes in one over on three occasions in three different tournaments, as well as producing many four-wicket spells with his accurate medium pace.
Ahmad plays for Global Distribution, with whom he is employed, and when his team is not playing in a tournament he represents Seven Seas and Golden Tower Metal Industries.
He recently cracked 164 runs off just 57 balls for Global Distribution against HSBC in the Dulsco Ramadan Twenty20 tournament.
In the sixth Umm Al Quwain Premier Twenty20 league, his four-wicket spell for 24 runs for Golden Tower helped destroy Unicon Real Estate Club and clinch his team a place in the final, where they will meet Globe Link West Star Shipping.
In the Oasis Cup final, he cracked 101 off 62 balls and took three wickets to help Seven Seas beat star-studded Yogi Group. And in the recent Bukhatir League, Ahmad represented Seven Seas and destroyed Al Badr with a spell of 4 for 35.
Twenty-eight-year-old Ahmad, who hails from Sahiwal and had played first class cricket for the Multan region in Pakistan’s domestic cricket before moving to the UAE last year, told Gulf News: “I play my game without getting affected by pressure. I love playing according to the requirements of the team.
“I hit 164 runs as my team lost two quick wickets and we needed a good run rate. I love hitting sixes, especially over mid-on and mid-off, and I am happy that I have hit six sixes in one over at Zabeel Park, Umm Al Quwain and Al Jadaf ground.
“In the Sharjah Super Sixes tournament, I won the prize for the highest number of sixes, competing with international stars. I perform consistently because I love playing the game and according to the demands of my team.
“I am thankful to Freddy Sidhwa of Seven Seas who encouraged me a lot and gave me a chance to play in an A division tournament through his team.
“I want to perform consistently and win a place in the UAE team and guide them to victories like I have been enjoying doing for my teams in domestic tournaments.”
