India’s first win at Edgbaston sparks Tendulkar tribute to Gill, Akash Deep, and Siraj
After India’s historic 336-run demolition of England at Edgbaston, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar lavished praise on the team for their dominant, all-round display.
The commanding nature of the performance earned widespread admiration, especially for captain Shubman Gill, who led by example with sensational knocks of 269 and 161, and pacer Akash Deep, whose 10-wicket haul proved decisive in dismantling England’s batting line-up.
Tendulkar took to his official X account to applaud Gill’s remarkable performance and the team’s collective brilliance.
'A Shublime innings from the man of the moment! Congratulations, @ShubmanGill, on powering India to a brilliant Test victory!'
He also highlighted the contributions of several other key performers. "@RishabhPant17, @klrahul, and @imjadeja batted very well, especially in the 2nd innings. India's approach was to take England out of this game and force them to play differently, making sure that there would only be one winner."
Tendulkar reserved special praise for pacer Akash Deep, who delivered a sensational performance with figures of 4/88 and 6/99, surpassing Chetan Sharma’s long-standing record for the best match figures by an Indian bowler on English soil.
"What impressed me most about the bowlers was the length they bowled. Needless to say, Akash Deep was the standout bowler, and in my opinion, he bowled the ball of the series to Joe Root."
He also commended Mohammed Siraj for his impressive athleticism and energy on the field. "P.S.: Enjoyed the catch taken by Mohammad "Jonty" Siraj."
India’s victory not only squared the five-match Test series at 1-1 but also secured India’s first-ever win at the iconic Birmingham venue.
