Ravichandran Ashwin is poised to part ways with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of the upcoming IPL season, bringing an end to his second stint with his home franchise.

The veteran off-spinner, who also serves as Director of Operations at the CSK Academy, is expected to step down from that role to avoid any conflict of interest should he join another team. While the exact reason for the split remains unclear, reports suggest Ashwin has made up his mind and informed the franchise.

According to Cricbuzz, Ashwin has already communicated his decision to the CSK management. The development comes as senior CSK officials and players – including current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and former skipper MS Dhoni – held a series of meetings in Chennai in recent days.

Several reports indicate that Ashwin has formally asked to be released ahead of the next auction, citing performance factors and the franchise’s restructuring plans.

Ashwin made his IPL debut with CSK in 2009 and played six seasons before stints with Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals. He returned to CSK in 2024.
