Dubai: When one mentions "Captain Cool," the name of former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni immediately comes to mind. The nickname, affectionately given by fans over the years, reflects the wicketkeeper-batter’s calm demeanor both on and off the field.

Now, Dhoni has taken a step further by seeking to trademark the name. His application has been officially accepted and published by the Trademark Registry of India. The trademark will be granted if no objections or oppositions are raised by any third party within 120 days of its publication.

The Chennai Super Kings star aims to use the trademark exclusively for sports training, coaching services, and training centers.

“Delighted to share a recent development from the field of trademark law that underscores the evolving role of personality rights and acquired distinctiveness in overcoming relative grounds for refusal,” Dhoni’s lawyer, Mansi Aggarwal, told India Today.

Aggarwal noted that the process was challenging, as the phrase "Captain Cool" had already been registered. However, Dhoni’s legal team successfully argued that the name had become uniquely associated with Dhoni, widely used by fans and the media for years.

Earlier this month, Dhoni was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. “It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world,” Dhoni said in a statement. “To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever.”
