Kaif Ghaury and Chamara Zoysa were awarded the Man of the Tournament awards for 2002 and 2003, respectively, at Thursday night's NMC Trophy awards function at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Ghaury scored 582 runs with two centuries and picked up two wickets, while Zoysa scored three tons in his 437 and picked up seven wickets. Both players are from NMC.

The Abu Dhabi Gymkhana and Nissan Al Masoud Automobiles (winners and runners-up in 2002) and Dubai's Consolidated Shipping Company and Arab Udupi (2003 winners and runners up) also received their trophies from B.R. Shetty, chairman and managing director of NMC, and Wajahat Hussain, vice-president of Abu Dhabi Cricket Council.

"There is no doubt the NMC Trophy is the premier tournament for A division teams in the UAE," said Wajahat.

"We place on record the determined efforts of Mr Shetty in promoting the game in Abu Dhabi and in making the dream of the Zayed Cricket Stadium a reality," added Wajahat, who apart from being a regular cricketer, is one of the top banking officials in the capital.

"The Abu Dhabi Cricket Club's academy for school children and juniors is expected to take wings by the end of April," said Shetty, who is also the ADCC president, said.

"We have been flooded with enquiries by children and parents and the academy should get started soon," Shetty said.

"Four turf pitches are getting ready and with the cement pitches in the adjoining grounds this long-awaited training centre for youngsters will be up and on," Shetty added.
