Dubai: Yuzvendra Chahal is used to baffling opponents with his spin, but this week, it was a different kind of bamboozle — one of emotions and personal revelations. The India leg-spinner shared a cryptic Instagram post shortly after his ex-wife, choreographer and content creator Dhanashree Verma, opened up about their divorce in an interview with Humans of Bombay.

“Million feelings, Zero words,” Chahal captioned photos from his recent trip to Kirkstone Pass while playing for Northamptonshire in England’s One-Day Cup 2025. The post immediately drew attention, coming just a day after Dhanashree addressed the end of their four-and-a-half-year marriage, officially finalised earlier this year.

Emotional moment

In the interview, Dhanashree candidly recounted the emotional toll of the split. She described her reaction on the day of the divorce verdict: “Even though we were so well-prepared mentally, I got so emotional. I started howling in front of everybody.” She also addressed Chahal’s controversial post-divorce T-shirt that read “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy”. “He walked out first, and I wasn’t aware of it because I was still inside. I got out from the back gate… It was just very sad. You don’t want cameras all over your face,” she said.

Emphasising the importance of privacy, Dhanashree added, “There’s a reason it’s called personal life; it should remain private. A coin has two sides, and you can’t clap with one hand… Right now, my focus is on healing and working on myself.” She reflected on the impact on her family: “The initial phase was very confusing… My parents felt overwhelmed, and I had to tell them, ‘Don’t answer calls, just stop.’”

Despite the challenges, Dhanashree remains positive about her career and future. “I’m still getting work and being appreciated for my talent. Directors and producers are excited to collaborate,” she said. She also reaffirmed her belief in love: “We all want love… Yes, self-love comes first, but if something good is written in my destiny, why not?”

Start of their romance

Chahal and Dhanashree’s journey began during the Covid-19 lockdown, when he approached her for online dance lessons. Their friendship blossomed into romance, culminating in a Gurugram wedding in December 2020. Following their separation in June 2022, the couple filed for divorce by mutual consent in February 2025, finalised in March.

Professionally, Dhanashree continues to thrive. She recently appeared in a dance number with Rajkummar Rao in Bhool Chuk Maaf and is set to make her acting debut in the upcoming Telugu dance drama Akasam Daati Vastaava, directed by Sri Sasi Kumar and produced by Dil Raju. Updates on the film are eagerly awaited.
