Dubai: Four cricketing icons—Inzamam-ul-Haq, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Mohammad, and Saeed Anwar—have been inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame for 2024, joining an elite group of Pakistan cricket greats.

This prestigious honour recognises their extraordinary contributions to the sport and solidifies their legacy in Pakistan's rich cricket history.

These legendary figures join the ranks of other cricketing luminaries such as Abdul Qadir, AH Kardar, Fazal Mahmood, Hanif Mohammad, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Younis Khan, and Zaheer Abbas.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PBC) announced on Friday that the four will be formally inducted throughout the year, receiving commemorative caps and specially-designed plaques to mark the occasion.

The Cricketing Legends:

  • Inzamam-ul-Haq, a towering figure in international cricket, played from 1991 to 2007. A member of Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup-winning team, he remains Pakistan's highest run-scorer in One Day Internationals (ODIs) with 11,701 runs, and the third-highest Test run-scorer with 8,829 runs.

  • Misbah-ul-Haq, who represented Pakistan from 2001 to 2017, was part of the 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup-winning squad and led the team to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test Team Rankings in 2016.

  • Mushtaq Mohammad, who played from 1959 to 1979, captained Pakistan to its first-ever Test victory in Australia in 1977 and was a part of the inaugural ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 1975. He later coached Pakistan to the 1999 World Cup final.

  • Saeed Anwar, a celebrated opener from 1989 to 2003, scored 31 centuries and 68 half-centuries. His remarkable 194 against India in 1997 remains one of his most iconic achievements.

On behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed heartfelt congratulations to these four legends, recognising their immense contributions to Pakistan cricket and to the global game.

“Mushtaq Mohammad is regarded as one of Pakistan’s finest captains, known for his astute leadership. Inzamam-ul-Haq’s immense talent has left an indelible mark. Misbah-ul-Haq’s leadership guided the team to historic heights, and Saeed Anwar’s graceful batting redefined the role of an opener,” said Naqvi.

He added that these legends not only elevated the sport within Pakistan but inspired generations of cricketers, helping solidify Pakistan's position as a cricketing powerhouse.

The Legends’ reactions:

Inzamam-ul-Haq expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition, stating, “To be recognised by the Pakistan Cricket Board is truly special. I hope this initiative continues to inspire future generations of cricketers.”

Misbah-ul-Haq, moved by the honor, said: “It’s humbling to join a distinguished group of Pakistan’s finest cricketers who have elevated the country’s image on the global stage.”

Saeed Anwar shared his appreciation, stating: “It’s a great honour to be inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame. I am proud to join the ranks of my childhood heroes and teammates.”

Mushtaq Mohammad, reflecting on his late-career recognition, added, “To be honoured 45 years after my last match is humbling. I’m deeply grateful to the PCB for demonstrating its love and care for those who have served this great game.”
