Daredevils defeat cost Sehwag a fortune
Johannesburg: Dashing opener Virender Sehwag, skipper of Delhi Daredevils, lost more than just a shot at the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy here on Friday.
Sehwag stood to gain hefty rewards, including a $1 million (Dh3.67 million) car and possibly a stake-holder's position in his team, but all went down the drain after his side was decimated by Deccan Chargers' in a semi-final clash of the IPL.
Sehwag, it's learnt, was promised an Audi car by GMR, owners of Delhi Daredevils and a 5 per cent stake in the team's company, if he had managed a finalist's spot for his side.
The rest of the side too stood to gain enormously as the owners had promised 50 per cent bonus over and above the hefty salary.
The owners had showed their intentions by announcing a cash bonanza of $10,000 to every member of the unit, including the support staff, after Delhi Daredevils had ensured a berth in the semi-finals. Naturally the mood in the dressing room was grim after the defeat, if not downright ugly, as postmortem of the shattering defeat was made.
