Dubai: A tragic incident unfolded in Ferozepur, Punjab, when a local cricketer collapsed and died of a heart attack moments after hitting a six—just one run short of his half-century.

Harjit Singh, playing for a local club, had struck a six and was jogging toward the non-striker’s end to celebrate with his teammate when he suddenly collapsed on the field. Teammates and opponents rushed to his aid and tried to revive him, but their efforts were in vain.

Singh, a carpenter by profession, was known for his active lifestyle and deep passion for cricket. “He was married and had a son,” said his teammate Rachit Sodhi.

Sadly, this is not an isolated case. In June 2024, 42-year-old Ram Ganesh Tewar suffered a fatal heart attack during a corporate cricket match in Kashmir, organized by a Mumbai-based firm. A video capturing the incident went viral.

Another similar case occurred in November 2024, when young cricketer Imran Patel collapsed while batting in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. After hitting a boundary during a match at Garware Cricket Stadium, Patel complained of discomfort and told the umpire he needed medication. He began walking off the field but collapsed before reaching the pavilion and was later taken to the hospital.
