Chris Martin calls Indian pacer ‘The Best Bowler’ in emotional performance

Dubai: In a moment of pure rock star magic, Coldplay’s Chris Martin stunned India’s world No. 1 Jasprit Bumrah with a tribute that not only struck a chord with the fast bowler but left him genuinely humbled. As the British rock band performed in Ahmedabad, Martin made sure to honour Bumrah at his hometown, calling him “the best bowler” in the world — a recognition that would make even the most seasoned pacer blush.
The connection between Coldplay and Bumrah has been growing steadily, with both showing mutual admiration for each other, whether through social media shutouts or moments shared during the band’s ongoing India tour. But it was in Ahmedabad where Martin took things a step further, performing a special song dedicated to the Indian fast bowler, celebrating his unmatched skills on the cricket field. O Jasprit Bumrah, my beautiful brother. The best bowler in the whole of cricket, Martin sang, a tribute that resonated deeply with Bumrah and his fans.
Martin also played a clip of Bumrah, showcasing the Indian fast bowler demolishing batters with his sheer class and pace. Additionally, Coldplay displayed Bumrah’s signed Test jersey on stage. The 31-year-old pacer is nursing an injury to his troublesome back, which he suffered during the final Test in Sydney against Australia.
The pacer’s participation in the Champions Trophy, to be held in Dubai and Pakistan, is still doubtful. India will be playing their Champions Trophy matches in Dubai as the eight-team event is held on a hybrid model with Pakistan hosting the rest of the matches.
In the first Coldplay concert in Mumbai on January 18, Martin had joked that Bumrah was present backstage and wanted to finish the show to face the bowler. The next day, Martin clarified, saying, “Today, Bumrah sent us a serious message. He said, ‘Listen, I did not give you permission to talk about me in your shows. I am the greatest bowler in the whole world.’ So, with respect and love for Jasprit, number one in the world, we hope that we send love to him by showing you this clip of India destroying England.”
Reacting to the band’s tribute, Bumrah posted: “This made me smile! Incredible vibe at the Coldplay concert in Mumbai (from what I’ve seen here) and even more special to be mentioned,” on social media after the Mumbai concert.
Martin also paid tribute to India on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day by singing famous songs Vande Mataram and Maa Tujhhe Salaam during the Ahmedabad concert on Sunday.
