ARP sink United Diesel in Sharjah final
Sharjah: Al Rostamani Pegel (ARP) defeated United Diesel by 16 runs in the final of the Al Rostamani Group cricket tournament at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The 10th anniversary edition of the tournament was keenly fought with ARP scoring 165 for six in 25 overs and restricting United Diesel to 149 in 24.3 overs.
Jaishankar, the captain of ARP won the toss and elected to bat. They started off well with a first wicket partnership of 80 runs between Jaishankar and Faisal Nadeem.
Jaishankar scored 32 with three fours and Faisal Nadeem chipped in with 58, studded with four fours and one six.
United Diesel's captain Zahir, who took three wickets for 31 runs, and Mujib, with two wickets for 34 , bowled well.
United Diesel began their chase well through openers Faizal and Ramaswamy putting on 38 runs but then lost six wickets for 96 runs.
Zahir and Rauf tried to resurrect the innings with a seventh wicket partnership of 44 runs. Once Zahir was out, the innings folded up for 149 runs.
It was a creditable win for ARP as United Diesel have won the tournament for the past two years.
Faisal Nadeem was declared the Man of the Match for scoring 58 runs and taking one wicket for 21 runs. He also won the Player of the Tournament award.
Varshabindu of ARBM won the Best Batsman award while Javed Ansari of ARIE bagged the Best Bowler.
