Appeals from Pakistan players scheduled for this month

New Delhi: The International Cricket Council is to hear appeals from three suspended Pakistan players in Doha, Qatar later this month.

Michael Beloff, chief of the ICC's code of commission, will hear the appeals of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir on October 30 and 31.

ICC chief executive, Haroon Lorgat, said the appeals are only against the interim suspension, however, and not against "substantive charges that were laid against the players”.

The ICC suspended the trio after a British tabloid newspaper accused them of accepting money for bowling no-balls at predetermined times during a test against England, in order to fix spot betting markets.

"We want to ensure a fair and just process in terms of our code, but we are also determined to maintain the integrity of our great sport," Lorgat said.

The cricketers will miss at least the first part of the series against South Africa, which begins in the United Arab Emirates on October 26 with Twenty20 international.

The ICC said the "players remain provisionally suspended from all cricket and related activities" until after the hearing.

Chief selector Mohsin Khan reportedly said last week that it would be tough to find replacements for the three players for the two T20s, five one-day internationals and two test matches at Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
